Bad examples can be very educational too. Show them a good stereo image
both mounted correctly and incorrectly, and also a poor stereo slide -
mounted as the best possible compromise - and mounted incorrectly. Then ask
if they can see the difference.
Sometimes it is easier to comprehend something if you know the reason why.
When you show them the images, have them close one eye, then open it and
close the other. Ask them to look at the left and right edges and identify
material that appears at the edge of the image in one eye view but not the
other. Then ask them if, when viewing with both eyes, those image parts are
in front of or behind the screen (if projected) or frame (if in a viewer).
Sometimes, the stereo window concept is easier to grasp by describing, or
better yet showing an illustration of the stereo pyramid. The giraffe
picture in the Spottiswoode brothers' book shows this very clearly.
