Brian Lewis said that "the costof the currentSaturn Slide is based primarily
on the cost of the lenses it uses " lens cost approx $ 90 or less , Viewer
$400 plus - I have been told. My personal view is that the Kodaslide II
viewer has excellent optics and at that focal length I do not know how they
could be any larger and at least they are coated which is more than I can
say about the Realist viewer lenses (uncoated) The Kodaslide II viewer has
apoor illumination as do most American viewers and it also has a poor focus
system unless repaired by the user. Mr Lewis said that adjusting your
viewer lens spacing when viewing a single stereo mtd. image does notalign
your eyes with the image. It moves the lenscenterline to match the infinity
centerline of the mounted image. You are in fact viewing the image off axis
anyway whether your viewer has adjustable lens spacing or fixed. Maybe the
180 Mg morphine I take each day has totally wiped out my ability to think
but I believe that whe I adjust my viewer lenses I am adjusting them so that
my eyes are looking through the center of each lens towards the center of
each stereo image Which I can not do if the lenses are improperly spaced
for my personal interocular spacing of my eyes. Mr Lewis also said that
having adjustable lens spacing is only an attempt to fix a mounting problem.
Granted it helps some times , but its main use is to make viewing more
comfortable- well mounted or not..
My experience has been that when I show my MF slides , using a decent
viewer, that they actuall are willing to look at them whereas in the past
they had little interest in looking at my twin camera stereo pictures which
they often considered them photographic toys ( I am reffering mostly to my
photographic ( flat ) friends. I would be surprised to see a college
level disertation showing that an interocular adjustment is not neccessary
to properly in some cases to properly view stereo slides when using normally
available optics DON
