Quite true. However, if posting something on the internet (as opposed to a
private e-mail between individuals) does not constitute public publication,
I don't know what does.

Fortunately, our moderators have (at least so far) chosen to publish
postings, even when they personally disagreed with them. I think they are
not being given enough credit for the way they are handling situations that
no doubt are difficult for them.
In one recent case, a poster posted a subject that had nothing to do with
3-D. Yet, the moderator chose to publish it anyway, along with a very
polite and tactful suggestion as to a better list to post it to. I think
that this was very good, as it not only helped the poster, but pointed out
alternatives to others who may not have been sure as to whether this was the
best place for their postings. I don't think that I would have been as
polite or tactful. Which is one of the reasons why I am not setting up my
own list. I think that there are others more qualified to do so. Such as
our current moderators.
I have been offended by various things that have been posted, yet I agree
with their being posted and would defend the poster's right to say them,
even though I personally diagreed with the commentary.

So did I. The image was almost exactly what I expected when I downloaded it
(except, as others pointed out, the "hot" part, which I did not see in the
picture).
Some replies indicated that the persons replying were offended by the choice
of words. Each of you who bravely did this should be applauded for voicing
your opinions. This is the way to express disapproval in something for
which you disagree or find offensive, not ask that the poster be silenced.
You will find that if enough people agree with you, and so state their
agreement, others will likely use more discretion in future postings. It's
called "peer pressure". And it works.
