I have not used any of these units for an extended
period of time but I have heard the same comment from
others...

Where in particular does it seem hot? Top or bottom?
What kind of bulb are you using?

I would think that the worse bulb in terms of heat
generation is the 110V, 10W. This bulb is rather
dim so it is used at full brightness, which generates
the most heat. The viewer has a metal reflector
attached to the slide carrier, at the top of the bulb.
This appears to be there to diffuse the heat.

I would recommend the following:

1. Use the 75V/6W bulb (it is brighter anyway)

2. Paint the black areas in the lamp compartment with a
   white paint.

Step no. 2 will reduce the heat absorbed by these black
areas. It will also increase the overall light intensity
in the light chamber which will encourage you to use the
bulb (no. 1) in less than full brightness, which will also
contribute the less heat.

George
