T3D approximations

"digital conversion might represent an
APPROXIMATION of the original, but could not replace the original in any
serious conservation effort."

A print is only an approximation of a negative. Often only the printed
copies remain. Most silver prints hold up well. Kodachrome holds its
colors very well. Dye transfers hold colors better yet. Digital holds
up best yet, if you can open the files.

Film has unique capabilities, but it will be replaced in many
applications. Digital data will be archived. It has been replacing
film for years. You will notice that your GM dealer doesn't use
microfilm anymore. Kodak renamed its "Microfilm" division its "Imaging"
group more than 15yrs ago.

The differences between data files and image data has been size. Size
doesn't matter if your drive is sufficient. Or, so I've heard.
