As a starting point, the lens you use (zoom or otherwise) shouldn't matter.
(By the way, lets use "mm" for millimeters rather than "ml" which is
milliliters and may be more use full in the wet side of the darkroom ;-))
I would warn you, however, that unless your working at small apertures
and/or wide angle and/or with APO lens corrected into the IR, the autofocus
setting may disappoint you (unless your after a soft look). Try manual
focus using the IR mark on the lens to compare with your auto results, to
see if you care. (This means focus auto or manual so the scene looks
sharp, then manually move to the IR mark from there.)

a "light level" and in our IR case, a ratio of IR to visible. Is this your
sunny day estimate?
