After making thousands of negatives, I have recently begun shooting a few
transparencies (just finished putting together the viewer kit I got from
Paul at the last convention and it is wonderful). Since these images are one
of a kind (except for the duplicates I shoot at the same time), I cannot see
risking them getting damaged, especially in a folio. In order to protect
them I have been using the clear sleeves that many labs put them in after
processing. I have to trim off the overlapping edge so that I end up with a
"V" that covers the film, then I tape it in, then tape that sandwich into
the mount and tape the mount closed (did someone say something about
staples?!). That way one can protect the film and still be able to
conveniently slip it into the viewer. I don't think it's possible to tell
that it is on the image when viewing. This material is made by Filmguard in
Escondido, CA and is available in 1000' rolls. I just got my second roll at
Glazer's in Seattle so I have plenty if anyone would like a sample (or to
purchase a larger amount, I'm sure not many are going to want to buy a 1000'
roll (about $90).
