If you want to shoot with the case on the camera, why not attach the
case to the camera with the 3/8-16 bolt that came with the case and
put the 3-8-16 to 1/4-20 bushing that you got at the camera store into
the bolt that secures the case to the camera?

I'm pretty sure I've seen a 1/4-20 bolt with 1/4-20 socket at one of
the local (NYC) camera stores.  I can find out the price if you'd
like.
