P3D Re: Photography vs Stereography

Ever so often, the subject turns to, "How can we get more people
involved
in the hobby that gives us so much pleasure?"
The first question we need to ask is, "Should we be trying to get more
people involved? Is that ehat we rally want?"
If we answer, "Yes," then we should probably work together to come up
with
a "Plan of Action." ("Jim, Your mission, should you choose to accept
it......")
Dr. T hates to generalize, but goes on to do so, and makes some good
points.... maybe. The problem with all of these opinions is that
they're
based on the experiences that each of us have had, when trying to
involve
others.
I've shown my slides, and my collected views to many friends and
coworkers. 5 employees, where I work, had the privilege of running with
the
Olympic torch, when it last passed through South Florida. I captured a
bit
of the event in 3D. When I showed it to the runners, and many others,
they
were impressed.
Yet, no one seems to be interested enough to try it themselves. Maybe
I'm
not enthusiastic enough. I certainly take many fewer pictures than most
of
the (pardon me) "Shooters" on this list. Maybe I'm using the wrong
tactics?
None of the info we've gathered is all that useful. The different
reactions we're getting may be effected by where we're located, delivery
of
information, our own enthusiasm, the weather... who knows? We've never
taken
a scientific look at what excites people into joining us in our hobby.
Nothing we've talked about can be graphed. I think the kind of data
we're
getting is like circumstantial evidence... the kind of data that might
be
termed: "Qualitative Data" (unless I'm misunderstanding the definition
of the
term). Maybe we need more "Quantitative Data."
Perhaps we need to use a more scientific method to gather information
about why people are or are not getting excited and joining us.
Sharing stories, as we've been doing, is good. But it would help if
we
could chart the methods that work.
    yeah.
Or maybe I'm taking this all a wee bit too seriously.
In any case... I figured I'd share my thoughts and see if anyone would
comment on them.
