If you are discussing the original PhotoSmart scanner, I use the little
application named PScan32 by Lenik Terenin to drive it.  It lets me do
an entire strip of negatives at a shot.  It's not a perfect app, but
about a year ago, I reinstalled my workstation, and didn't reinstall the
HP software for the scanner.  I still don't miss it.
